Our programs

Free education and care for deaf children, shaped around how each child communicates.

School education

Class 1 to 10

Classroom walls are filled with colorful pictures, maps, and charts. Students sit the same government exams as other children, with exemptions for two of the three languages.

  • Teachers with a special B.Ed in hearing impairment
  • Government question papers for school exams
  • Class 10 exams taken at outside centers, like other students
  • A 100% Class 10 pass rate for the last five or six years

Two of last year's seven Class 10 students received the district's Shining Stars award.

Communication and hearing

Every student

Each child starts with a case study and a hearing test, which shape how they're taught.

  • Sign language for children who can't hear at all
  • Voice teaching for children with some hearing
  • Lip reading
  • Speech therapy with flash cards for younger children
  • Hearing aids, based on the test results

Older students also adopt new arrivals, taking responsibility for their daily needs, from meals to meeting parents.

Hostel and care

Free for every student

The school is residential, so children live and learn alongside others who share their experience.

  • Free accommodation and meals
  • Uniforms, clothes, books, and pens provided
  • Separate buildings and wardens for boys and girls
  • Wardens on hand overnight, with basic medicines
  • Doctor check-ups when a child has a health problem

Students keep in touch with their parents through regular video calls.

Practical skills

Alongside school

Students learn hands-on skills that help them become self-reliant.

  • Soap making
  • Chalk making
  • Gardening
  • Agricultural work
  • Tailoring for girls on Sundays

Former students now work in computer jobs, hotel billing, and as government clerks.

Beyond the classroom

Sports

Students have won volleyball prizes, and one girl placed first in the state in shot put.

Music and dance

Students get music training, and they learn dance routines step by step and perform them, even without hearing the song.

Drawing

Many students have a sharp eye and a real talent for drawing.

What's next: vocational training

We're planning to add trade training so students leave Class 10 with a profession, such as plumbing, electrical work, car mechanics, or tailoring.
